PPOC Judging Certification

Because I am way behind so to speak, I’m going to backtrack for a short bit to catch up.

After joining the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) in 2019 and working my way through several years to earn my Craftsman of Photographic Arts (CPA), I was successful in receiving my judging certification.

Since retiring from my career in health care and starting Sault Photography Club in 2017 my goal has always been to take my photography to the next level and to share my gift with the photographic community.

PPOC is a volunteer based organization dedicated to maintaining the highest industry standards of professional imaging today and it has been pivital in my journey.

After joining in 2019 I went to work immediately to amass merits through service, education, and print which eventually led to my CPA.

This means, merits are assigned for each image accepted into National Salon,  educational opportunities I participated in and through volunteerism as well as many other avenues.

After three years I had amassed enough merits to receive my designation which was a prerequisit for applying to take the judging certification course.

I was eligible and planning on doing the course in 2024 but unfortunately I was forced to pass on it because I was still very ill and unable to sit at a computer.

Since the course is only offered once a year,  the year rolled over and the next offering was announced so I jumped at the opportunity to register.

In January 2025 I attended my course.  I adorned myself with my hard earned bling. For three very long and eventful days myself and several other colleagues sat in a virtual classroom receiving multiple lectures, learning various materials and guidelines, set ups, most importantly diplomacy and then practice judging.

Finally we were put in a real life live judging situation and our grading came from this experience.

I’m pleased to announce that on January 27, 2025 I received my judging certification.  To have this new skill in my toolbox is a testament to the hard work and time I have devoted to my craft.  I am truly looking forward to putting it to good use while helping others in their photographic journey.

I will be judging this year at the regional level prior to receiving my Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) which is expected in 2026.

With an MPA under my belt and more experience I will be free to judge at the national level.

For now however, and in the future for that matter I am available and free to offer my judging services to arts programs, students, camera clubs and other photographic communities.

If you fall into one of those categories and feel you may benefit from my services please feel free to reach out.  I’m looking forward to the experience.
